Michael Kapilidis is one of the most sought-after Greek session musicians. During his 30-year career as a drummer, he has collaborated both in a studio and a live setting with most of the major pop and folk artists of the country. He has performed in over 200 shows a year for over a decade now and has appeared in over 100 major label album recordings.
Some notable session highlights are:
- His 12-year tenure with platinum selling singer/songwriter, Alkinoos Ioannides. This successful collaboration can be best heard in the live LP "Ektos Topou kai Hronou" (2000). This record has achieved legendary status amongst both critics and fans, while it is considered to be a major influence for a large part of the drumming community in Greece.
− Multi-national tour with the platinum selling folk singer Eleftheria Arvanitaki including performances in Mexico, South Africa, Ukraine, Finland, amongst other countries
− Over two years of extensive touring both local and abroad with Greece's no.1 pop-star, Anna Vissi.
− Live and studio work with the multi-platinum selling artists: Giorgos Dalaras, Sakis Rouvas, Dimitra Galani, Kostas Tournas, Sokratis Malamas, Nikos Portokaloglou, Nikos Papazoglou and more.
Michael currently plays for multi-platinum artist Eleonora Zouganeli and also co-leads the band Hopla Loon, which mixes musical elements from the Balkans and the Meditterenean area with modern fusion concepts. He has been a faculty member at Lab Music Education, one of the most cutting edge schools in the country, where he teaches drums and also conducts band workshops and masterclasses.
